Mersea Road Surgery is moving to the old

Garrison Medical Centre

During the Autumn 2012 both Mersea Road Surgery and our branch surgery at 16 Creffield Road, will close and move to the old Garrison Medical Centre. The Garrison Medical Centre is currently undergoing a major refurbishment which will see it converted into 2 surgeries for us with approximately 11,000 patients and Portland Road with approximately 2,000 patients.  This represents a huge investment both on the part of the Primary Care Trust (PCT) and the Partners.  The aim is to provide excellent service for all our patients in a modern healthcare setting.

The decision to move has been made for several reasons including:-

- With limited access/space we are unable to expand the services we currently provide.  The new site will enable us to provide more services all from the one location.

- Neither of the current sites are compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act – wheelchair access is restricted and some of the clinical rooms are upstairs.

- Limited parking at Creffield Road often means patients encountering difficulties.

- With doctors spread across two sites it means Dr Brayley and Dr Roberts are only available at Mersea Road on their duty doctor days (emergency appointments only) and Dr Stacey, Dr Goel and Dr Kuppuswamy are not available for routine appointments at Creffield Road.  Having everyone on one site will provide us with far more flexibility and choice for patients.

- As part of the move other facilities, such as the telephone system, will also be upgraded – this should make it easier to get through on the telephone.

Your views and opinions are very important to us.  Please either complete the PCT feedback form (found in the waiting rooms and put it in the box provided), come along to the Patient Group meetings, and/or speak to the practice manager – Mrs Nicky Young.
